Volunteers & Support Requests
There are essentially two types of volunteers namely affiliated and unaffiliated volunteers. Affiliated volunteers are highly qualified volunteers who are attached to a recognized voluntary or non-profit organization such as the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society. These are trained for specific disaster response activities such as search and rescue, damage assessment, medical services, camp coordination and camp management, manning emergency operations centers, volunteer registration, and others.
Unaffiliated Volunteers are basically those that are not affiliated to any recognized disaster management organization prior to a disaster. However, pre-identification of some roles that can be played by volunteers during a disaster can be very helpful for a disaster management organization like the Department of Civil Protection of Zimbabwe as this enhance effective and coordinated response.
Some volunteers can proffer support in the form of donations, provision of voluntary workforce, debris clean-up in the event of damaged infrastructure, feeding of internally displaced population, logistical support such as transportation of relief materials.
Volunteers can enhance communities’ ability to respond to disasters by providing additional response capacity through different expertise. The registratuib application form provides multi hazard and generic areas of volunteer interventions during emergencies and disasters. Thank you for your willingness to lend your support!
